Two Nations, One Shared Vision.

When two nations as interconnected as Mexico and the United States collaborate, the result is a shared vision for prosperity and mutual benefit. ALMA, the Alliance of Mexicans & Americans, exists as a testament to this profound partnership. It’s not just a project; it’s a call to action—a platform where the threads of two cultures are woven together, creating a future built on collaboration, equity, and pride.

In 2023, Mexico became the United States’ largest trading partner, surpassing Canada and China, with bilateral trade reaching an astonishing $800 billion. This milestone highlights the deep economic interdependence that has flourished over decades. Beyond trade, however, lies a more nuanced story of mutual reliance: one where Mexican workers drive key sectors of the U.S. economy, and where American citizens and investments find fertile ground in Mexico.

Mexican workers are integral to the backbone of U.S. economic growth. From agriculture to construction, Mexicans make up a significant proportion of the workforce in critical industries. Two out of every five U.S. farmworkers are migrants, and seven out of ten of these are Mexican men. These contributions ensure that food reaches American tables, homes are built, and industries thrive. Yet, contrary to stereotypes, only 20% of Mexican migrants’ earnings are sent as remittances to Mexico. The remaining 80% is reinvested in the U.S. economy, driving consumer spending and supporting entire industries. If Mexican migrants stopped consuming, the U.S. economy would face a contraction equivalent to the loss of its entire agricultural, fishing, and forestry sectors—a staggering 1% of GDP.

The exchange is not one-sided. Mexican investors have created over 133,000 jobs in the United States, benefiting states like California, Texas, and Florida. Meanwhile, U.S. companies with operations in Mexico contribute to job creation on both sides of the border. For every 131 jobs generated in Mexico, another 333 are created in the U.S., a clear demonstration of the symbiotic relationship that underpins this binational dynamic.

This shared vision extends beyond economics. Over 1.6 million U.S. citizens call Mexico home, making it the top foreign destination for American expatriates. Mexico is also the leading travel destination for U.S. tourists, underscoring the cultural and personal connections that bind the two nations.

At ALMA, we believe in the strength that emerges when we recognize these ties not as points of difference, but as opportunities for collaboration. Our mission—”Connecting Cultures, Building a Shared Future for Mexico and the U.S.”—reflects this reality. Today, more than ever, we need examples of unity, and Mexico and the United States stand as a powerful testament to what two nations can achieve together.

The road ahead requires more than acknowledging this interdependence; it demands action. Policies that foster inclusion, equity, and mutual respect are vital to strengthening this partnership. ALMA invites everyone—whether in Mexico, the U.S., or beyond—to join us in building a future where collaboration is not just a strategy, but a shared vision.

Two nations. One vision. A future united by effort, heart, and a commitment to progress. Together, we can build the bridge to tomorrow.
